VOLLEYBALL

Jonesville pulled together with determination on their home court by defeating East Jackson Thursday. 
The Comets recovered from a slow start to take the first set 26-24. 
The second set was neck and neck with Jonesville finishing it at 26-24. 
In the third set Jonesville came out with more confidence and aggressive net play to take the match by the astonishing score of 25-1. 
Shaila Rossman led the Comets with nine kills along with Brittany Weinberg and Mekinsey Molinaro, who added five kills each. 
Jenna Kast had 20 assists and Chelsea Taylor had 18 digs. 
The Lady Comets are 6-6 overall and face Athens next Tuesday in Big Eight action.

The Flames made a long road trip to Kalamazoo worthwhile in a thrilling five-set win Thursday.
They were victorious 25-22, 21-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-13.
Rebekah Turbeville had a big night with 38 assists, four digs and two aces.
Kaity Allen added 12 kills, eight digs, and three aces and Jessica Stoll had 20 kills, seven digs and five aces.
Abi Turbeville tallied a team-high 28 digs.

It was another tough night for the young Hornets program. They won the first set, then dropped three straight. Sumer Way said her team lost confidence after a poor start to the second game and they couldn’t quite pick themselves back up from it.
“We let this loss of momentum affect the rest of our play, and while we did some good things, we lacked aggressive play and we let some things slip through our fingers,” Way said via e-mail.
Hannah Cleveland had 18 digs and five kills, while Taylor Mann had 15 digs and three kills. Chloe Jelenc had a team-high 29 digs and Lauren Chase had 25 assists.


GIRLS GOLF

Academy golfers win tri-match
The Hillsdale Academy girls golf team placed first in an afternoon 9-hole tri-match at the Devil's Lake Golf Course this afternoon.  The lady colts recorded a team total of 191 to best Onsted high (207) and St. Mary Central Monroe (204).  Medalling in the event was the Academy's elyse lisznyai, who shot a personal-best 42; runner-up was Academy eighth- grader Courtney Wollet, who carded a 44; other colts on record were Katherine Vaillancourt, 51; Meg Ryan, 54; and Maddy Collins, 76.
