Leutheuser named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week
Sophomore middle hitter Clara Leutheuser became the second Charger volleyball player to be named the GLIAC South Division Player of the Week this season on Monday afternoon. The award was announced by the conference office.
Leutheuser, a middle hitter, was a driving force of the Hillsdale offense as it went 2-0 on a road trip through the state of Ohio last weekend. She finished the two matches with a total of 17 kills and one error, with an eye-popping hitting percentage of .552.
She had nine kills and no errors in a 3-0 sweep of Ashland University Saturday afternoon. That performance came on the heels of an eight-kill performance in just two sets played in a 3-1 win over Tiffin last Friday night.
Leutheuser currently leads the GLIAC in hitting percentage for the season at .360, and is sixth in kills per set and tied for eighth in the league in blocks per set. Her sterling play in the middle has been a big part of Hillsdale's 9-1 start to the 2009 season.
Sophomore Ashlee Crowder won the first GLIAC South Player of the Week award, handed out two weeks ago.
Leutheuser is from Hillsdale and played her high school ball at Hillsdale Academy. She and her Charger teammates will play their first home match of the season tonight, when the host the University of Findlay starting at 7 p.m.
