Boys soccer

The Comets retained first place in the ISL and moved to 7-1-1 overall with a strong second half at Onsted Wednesday.
Senior Travis Haas, in his first season on the team, scored two goals, including a header off of a Chad McOscar corner kick, and Jared Jordan scored what ended up being the game-winner, on a pass from Adam Thorp.
"I'm just proud of my guys and I knew we needed to get more than a one-goal cushion like we had at the half, and we came out and scored some pretty goals and got a good win," Comets head coach Pat Bernklau said.
McOscar and Caleb Brown scored the other Jonesville goals and Brown and Ryan Landis were credited with assists in the league victory.
Logan Sheerer made nine saves in goal and Bernklau said it may have been one of the finest outings of his career.
"Logan just looked great tonight, he made several acrobatic saves and he just gave us confidence that he could stop whatever was coming his way," he said.
The next week and a half are big for the Comets as they face Hillsdale Academy and Jackson Christian. The Colts beat them in a shootout in the Hillsdale County Soccer Cup earlier this season, the Comets lone loss.

It was another good effort, but the short end of the stick once again for the Hornets.
For the second straight game Hillsdale lost by a single goal, falling to 3-5 on the season.
Cameron Holroyd netted two goals and Mike Clevenger and Nick Bakerjan each scored.
Blake Cochran, Patrick Martin and Preston Scharlow all tallied assists.

Volleyball

After going up 2-1 Tuesday the Hornets couldn't quite close it out on the road, in a loss at Lansing Christian.
The Pilgrims were victorious 14-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-10, 15-9.
"This was a tough loss but a good experience for us as a team. It was the first time that the girls were able to play on a fairly high level consistently for a long time; we haven't had endurance up to this point," Hillsdale head coach Sumer Wells said in an e-mail.
"We could have won had we started off better in the second, fourth and fifth sets; that will come as the girls get used to playing well consistently."
Hannah Cleveland had a big night for the Hornets, tallying 14 digs, eight kills, three blocks and three aces.
Chloe Jelenc had 23 digs and Lauren Chase finished with 23 assists.
The Hornets are 5-12-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The Orioles swept through Fremont with relative ease, 25-10, 25-14, 25-22.
Alex Neitzert eight kills and five digs and Sara Burge tallied nine assists.
Regan Stall had five digs and Deanna O'Dell had five kills.
The Orioles are now 10-11-1 overall.

Cross country
Colts boys first, girls third as SCAA jamboree
The Hillsdale Academy cross country teams competed in the first SCAA jamboree Wednesday, hosted by Colon High School.
The girls finished third with 75 points.  Battle Creek St. Philip finished first with 47 points, followed by Bellevue with 70 points.  The Academy's runners included Shaley Albaugh (5th, 20:59), Emily Brady (9th, 21:48), Erin Gieseke (11th, 21:54), Christina Craig (16th, 22:44), Elizabeth Brady (35th, 27:48) and Elizabeth Whalen (36th, 28:00).
The boys won the jamboree by scoring 45 points.  They were followed by Colon in 2nd (68 points) and Bellevue in third (81 points).  The Colts were led by Joel Calvert who finished 2nd (16:55) and Andrew Alvarez who finished 6th (17:31).  Other top finishers for Hillsdale Academy were James Jordan (10th, 17:45), Joe Craig (12th, 17:55), Ethan Gehrke (15th, 18:09), Gwydion Angell (25th, 18:41) and Hunter Murray (38th, 19:34).

Jonesville holding free clinic
Jonesville girls basketball coach Tom Dunn is hosting a Jr. Pro basketball fundamentals clinic at the Jonesville Middle School gym this Saturday.
The free clinic is open to third- through sixth-graders with the third- and fourth-grade session taking place from 8-9 a.m. and the fifth- through sixth-grade session running from 9-10:15 a.m.
