Weatherhead named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week
Hillsdale College junior quarterback Troy Weatherhead was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after his performance Saturday against Michigan Tech. The award was announced by the conference office Tuesday morning.
Weatherhead put together an outstanding day as the Chargers edged the Huskies 37-35 in the GLIAC opener for both teams on Sept. 5. He completed 24-of-32 passes for 324 yards and three touchdown passes.
His 324 yards through the air are the second-most he's had in a game in his career, and his three touchdown passes are also the second-most he's had in a game. In the win over MTU, he completed 75 percent of his passes, and his three TD passes went to three different players.

Pittsford volleyball stages comeback against Reading
The Pittsford Wildcats showed some heart and eked out a non-conference win over Reading in four sets Tuesday. The Wildcats won (17-25), 25-15, 26-24, 25-23 to improve to 3-4 overall. Brittany Houser had seven aces and three blocks for Pittsford, while Sam Nichols was good for 18 assists. After losing in the first set the Wildcats shored some things up and started working more cohesively as a team, head coach Holly Clark said.
"We started communicating a little better and I think we had a good run of serves in a row that kind of got Reading down," she said.
Nicole Culbert had nine kills and three blocks in the win, Ashley Buckner had five kills and Katelyn Kipfmiller registered seven digs.

Colts cross country teams place in top half at Hudson
The Hillsdale Academy Colts competed at the Hudson Early Bird Invitational on Tuesday, taking third on the girls side and fourth on the boys side at the 10-team event.
The girls finished with 96 points, behind Perry (1st, 39 points) and Mason (2nd, 58 points).
Shaley Albaugh finished fourth overall (21:52) and was followed by Erin Gieseke (10th, 23:26), Chrissy Craig (16th, 24:03), Emily Brady (20th, 24:40), Elizabeth Brady (46th, 29:30) and Elizabeth Whalen (48th, 30:04).
The boys tallied 90 points, finishing behind Mason (1st, 65 points), Perry (2nd, 72 points) and Hudson (75 points).
Joel Calvert led the way, finishing 8th (18:14).
He was followed by James Jordan (15th, 19:14), Ethan Gehrke (16th, 19:19), Joe Craig (18th, 19:22), Gwydion Angell (33rd, 20:38), Hunter Murray (39th, 21:06) and Dillon Murray (50th, 22:18).
