Reading overcomes Charger curse
Two decades of history are finally behind the Reading Rangers as they downed Big Eight foe Union City on the road, pounding them 46-27 behind another huge night from Brian Rauth.
For the first time since 1989 the Rangers beat the Chargers on their home turf and they took charge of the conference title race in the process.
"I thought our offensive and defensive lines did a good job of controlling the line of scrimmage," head coach Rick Bailey said. "Our QB (Joe Hubbard) also showed poise and it was just a really good all-around effort."
Rauth scored four rushing touchdowns and picked up 196 yards on 24 carries. He is averaging over 200 yards per game as the area's leading rusher.
Hubbard was 6-for-7 for 117 yards and Rauth had 65 yards receiving.
Alex Eastwood and James Piner both had seven tackles.
Chris Maye had 13 carries for 109 yards for Union City.

Hornets still winless
For the  first time since 1998 the Hillsdale Hornets are 0-3, following a 10-0 SMAA loss to Stockbridge. It is also just the second SMAA loss for the Hornets since they joined the conference.
In his first start at QB following a severe hand injury, Mike Curby was 5-for-16 for 52 yards and an interception. Dan Vear was 2-for-6 for 49 yards and two INT.
Curby led the rushing attack with 39 yards, Vear added 38 and Aaron Blanchard tallied 31.
A 15-yard touchdown pass from Jeff O'Brien to Doug Tripp with 4:43 remaining put the contest out of reach.
