Hillsdale, Reading, and Jonesville all take down gridiron foes

Even with Hillsdale's senior QB nursing an injury, the Hornets won their fourth straight contest to stay alive in the playoff hunt, with a 21-7 road win at Columbia Central.
The Hornets running attack totaled 241 yards, and Travis Hodos had the best night of his young career at QB as the Hornets took a 14-7 lead to halftime and added an insurance score in the fourth quarter.
Hodos was 4-for-9 for 81 yards and a 54-yard TD pass to Drew Byers, to go with 96 yards on 13 rushes.
He will need two more efficient starts if Hillsdale wants to sniff the postseason and head coach Marc Lemerand liked what he saw Friday.
"Mike injured his knee in practice and he's done for the season," he said. "I though Travis just did an outstanding job tonight."
In the ground game Aaron Blanchard had 111 yards on 115 carries, and Dustin Moyer broke free on a 65-yard TD run in the first half.
"Blanchard stepped up at running back," Lemerand said. "He's running extremely hard and he's very efficient for us."
Defensively the Hornets gave up 236 yards on the ground, but they intercepted three passes.
Sonny McCoy led Hillsdale with 10 tackles.
The Hornets take to the road to play Dundee next week.

Reading rolled to 7-0 with plenty of help from its defense and offensive line in a 61-13 rout of Homer.
The Rangers rushed for 419 yards, including 218 and three scores from Brian Rauth, and they intercepted four Trojan passes in the win.
"Our defense played well, and when a team throws the ball that often you have to get pressure on the QB, which we did, and our guys reacted," Reading head coach Rick Bailey said.
Kyle Girdham, Joe Hubbard, Matt VanNuys and James Piner all had interceptions as Homer was just 9-for-30 passing for 87 yards.
Offensively VanNuys had 10 carries for 124 yards, with three scores to his credit.
Hubbard completed just two passes for 10 yards, but it was no matter because the Rangers rushing attack averaged 8.8 yards per touch.
"You've got to give credit to your offensive line with those kind of numbers," Bailey said.
Homer falls to 1-6 with the loss.

Apparently Jonesville wasn't intimidated by Concord's 5-1 record.
On the first play from scrimmage Comets halfback John Sigler went the distance on a counter for a score and the Comets never looked back in a 54-28 road win over the Yellow Jackets.
The Comets led 40-0 at one point and head coach Joshua Lindeman said his boys are taking heart to the do-or-die mentality that comes with having three losses already (4-3 overall, 4-2).
"I was proud of the way we came out, on the road, against a 5-1 team," he said. "There was stuff in some papers about Concord being a playoff team and we just wanted to come out and prove that we're in a playoff race and we're going to respond."
Sigler scored five rushing touchdowns and had 257 yards on 16 carries. He now has 20 total touchdowns on the season, three short of tying the school record with two games remaining.
Trevor Kelley added 115 yards and a score on seven carries, Kory Kidder had a TD and 37 yards rushing and Brandon Jenkins tallied 27 yards on the ground as the Comets totaled 437 yards with its rushing attack.
Jay Bearden also intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown for the second straight week, and Josh Ellington added a pick.
Stephen Barnhill and Kory Kidder had fumble recoveries.
Concord did total 411 yards of offense, most of them through the air, and many of them in the second half.
Jordon Bullock was 24-of-43 for 369 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.
The Yellow Jackets leading receiver was Zach Brigham, who caught 10 passes for 182 yards and three scores.
The Comets have another road contest next week, at 1-6 Homer.
