After eight games, the match-up for the Class C District title in Jonesville is set, as the Bronson Vikings will face the host Comets.
Jonesville advanced with a four-game victory over the Lady Chargers of Union City. The contest was back and forth between both teams, but Jonesville seemed to have a constant fire burning throughout. The Chargers beat the Comets in the regular season and at the Big 8 tournament, but none of that seemed to matter Wednesday.
In the opening game, the Lady Comets were ahead the entire game and took a 25-22 win. In the second game, The Lady Chargers came back from a 21-18 deficit, but Jonesville won the final four points, for a 25-23 win.
In the third game, the contest went to a 19-19 tie, with both squads trading side outs until the score was tied at 25. The Lady Chargers pushed the match to a fourth game with a 27-25 win. In the final game, Jonesville took a 21-18 lead and held on for a 25-23 win.
" The Comets have continued working hard all season and came out tonight and worked as a team to earn this much needed win,” Jonesville head coach Debbie Proctor-Bigelow said in an e-mail. “These ladies have struggled the last 6 weeks or so getting healthy and injury free. I am so proud of how they have pulled together as a team at this point in the season.”
Shaila Rossman led the Comets with 13 kills, followed by Brianna Aemisegger with nine kills. Olivia Rowe tallied eight kills and Chelsea Taylor had 19 digs
Too many serving and receiving errors were the difference on the night for the Lady Chargers, who end the season at 24-19-4.
"We struggled to get going, and by the time we did, our backs were to the wall," said Union City coach Christy Tundevold. "Our serve receive was poor tonight, and we had a lot of attacking errors."
Taylor Miller had 32 digs; Kayla Champion had 16 digs; Sara Keller had seven kills; Chelsea Meyer had 6 kills and 10 blocks; Maegan Neal added 15 digs; Dani Thorpe had five digs and 15 assists on the night; Gabriella Brubaker had 12 kills and five blocks; Jordan Anderson had 10 kills; Karlie Snyder had three kills and two blocks; Kate Beemer added five digs and 10 assists and Mackenzie Inman had two kills and four assists.
In the other semifinals match, the Lady Vikings advanced to the district title game with a four-game victory over Quincy. In the opening game, Bronson came out on fire, going up 4-1 quickly.
The Lady Vikes cruised from there for a 25-19 win. In the second game, Bronson jumped out to an 8-1 lead, en route to a 25-10 win. In the third game, Quincy was able to pull out a win, leading the entire game, until Bronson tied the game at 20-20.
The Lady Orioles regrouped and won 25-21.
In the final game, Bronson cruised to a 25-8 win. Brooke Pyles led the way with 11 kills, two aces, 10 digs and two blocks; Katherine Carpenter added 10 kills, two aces and three blocks; Jordan Bell had 11 kills, one ace, 23 digs and a block; Hailey Brewer had seven kills and five blocks; Allison Kyle had three kills, 37 assists and five blocks; Torey Ernsberger added two kills and a block; Presley Martinez added a kill and 13 digs and Miranda O'Neill had five digs.
"We started out a little slow tonight, and then pretty much handed them game three with errors," said Bronson coach Jean LaClair. "We blocked very well tonight, and had seven different players produce kills, in a total team effort."
"We need to come ready to play tomorrow night against Jonesville, because they are playing well and will be playing on their home floor."
For Quincy, Joslyn Dwyer had 10 kills; Sanora Finley added nine kills; Alix Neitzert added five kills and 17 digs; Amanda Waligora added 12 digs; Sara Burge had seven assists and Kelsie Letendre had eight assists. The Lady Orioles finished the season at 33-14-5.
The Class C District final will start at 7 p.m.
