Reading Community Schools win free screening of Lebron movie

Thanks to their participation in the My Coke Rewards for Schools program the students and families of Reading Community Schools will enjoy a free evening with NBA superstar Lebron James — even if it's only on the big screen.

Reynolds Elementary was one of 10 winners of a nationwide schools sweepstakes sponsored by Sprite, winning an exclusive movie screening of the new LeBron James documentary More Than a Game, the uplifting story of the basketball legend and his high school teammates.

Second-grade through 12th-grade students will be given up to four tickets each for a special screening at Hillsdale's Premiere Theater on November 9 and 10 at 6 p.m. More Than a Game inspires all by showing how teamwork, courage and friendship helped James, an All Star and 2009 league MVP, become the amazing player he is today.

Reynolds Elementary got involved with the Rewards program when Cathy Dau, a parent of one of the students, decided to take on the responsibility of collecting and inputing codes in hopes of collecting enough points to earn things like free construction paper and balls for the playground, according to Reynolds Elementary Principal Tim Davis.

“She offered to get us signed up for the program and to enter the codes, and by doing that I think we were automatically entered in the sweepstakes,” he said. “At first I was a little skeptical when we got word that we had won and I wasn't sure what it all entailed, but from the first time I spoke with Coke's regional representative they have been great in getting everything set up.”

As part of the Sprite sweepstakes, Reynolds Elementary also received 25,000 My Coke Rewards bonus points. Reynolds Elementary can redeem these points to get needed items such as athletic equipment, art supplies, educational resources and much more from the My Coke Rewards for Schools rewards catalog.

Davis said Dau was looking into some gym equipment such as balls, bases, and storage utilities.

Davis said he is uncertain exactly how many people will attend the shows, but 200-300 each night would be a good turnout and Premier Theater was offering up to 1,500 tickets.
