Comets remain perfect
Jonesville nearly lost a big lead late, but instead they pulled it together just in time to keep their record spotless and get off to a good start in conference play.
Led by a career-high 17 points off the bench from Evan Lobdell the Comets took out a resilient Homer team 61-55 on the road.
“We were up by as much as 16 in the third quarter and we even missed a few layups that could have put us up by more, but then some guys got hot for Homer and they got as close as four,” Jonesville head coach Dustin Scharer said. “We almost missed our chance. At the end it was just pray that the clock keeps running, get on that bus and go.”
Lobdell played what Scharer called “the best game of his career” and he had plenty of help.
Spencer Nielsen scored 16 points to go with four steals.
Logan Jenkins tallied six points and nine rebounds and Chad McOscar finished with eight points and three assists.
“We've got a pretty nice group of guys and we've had three different leading scorers in three games, so teams can't come in a key on just one guy,” Scharer said.
Elliot Swope had a team-high 15 points for Homer.
Evan Camburn added 13 and Wade Brodock pitched in with 12 for the Trojans.
Jonesville is 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the league, while Homer is 1-1 and 0-1.

Rams fall short against Royals
It's not too often a coach starts out a conversation by admitting he was a primary cause of a loss, but that's just what North Adams-Jerome head coach Gary Beach did Thursday.
Beach said his strategy to break the opposition's press didn't work like he thought it would, and a Rams halftime lead turned into a 48-40 loss to Jackson Christian.
“Jackson came out in a half-court trap and I thought we were ready for it because we had practiced for it,” he said. “But I had some different personnel in there, and I'm not going to say his name, but one guy made a few poor decisions and I left some guys in there too long and we never quite caught up.”
The Rams still trailed by just one heading to the fourth quarter, but a 16-9 advantage in the fourth was more than enough for the Royals.
Patrick Robey led all scorers with 23 for Jackson Christian and Beach said he was even better than he expected.
“He's pretty good from long distance and he's pretty quick. They have him coming off screens and he was able to just dribble right by our guys a few times,” he said.
Robey hit five 3-pointers, after draining six triples in a game earlier this season.
Luke Hart led the Rams with eight points to go along with four steals and Josh Kast tallied four points, six rebounds and three steals.
David Wick hit two 3-pointers to total six points.
N A-J was 4-for-20 from beyond the arc, far too many 3-point attempts in Beach's opinion.
The Rams are now 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the league.

Tyler leads C-F past Academy
Camden-Frontier took advantage of a monster game from senior Kurtis Tyler to run past Hillsdale Academy 51-38 Thursday.
Tyler had 15 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Redskins' charge and Colts head coach Rick Milligan gave him all the credit in the world.
“He's a load to handle. He's smart and he knows how to back guys down and give them a good fake,” he said. “Plus I'll be honest, he hit some nice outside shots too and he's got a good shot from 15 feet.”
Nick Balbo added 11 points for C-F as they improved to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the division.
The Colts are 0-3 overall and in the division, but Milligan said he is pleased with the tangible progress he is seeing.
Eric Lisznyai led the way with 12 points and six assists and Charlie Ross added eight points and six rebounds.
Their head coach was complimentary of their efforts.
“I think tonight was a good game for Eric and he was really being patient with the offense and making plays,” Milligan said. “And Charlie did an awesome job as a big man, and overall as a team we were more patient getting good shots, and our defense is improving.”
Both teams are off until the Pat Paterson tournament the week after Christmas.
