With a May 4 school board election on the horizon, a second seat on the Albion School Board recently opened up with the resignation of Christopher Mullen.
A letter was read at the April 13 board meeting on behalf of Mullen, who announced he was being called back into active military duty. He is a captain, who is an emergency medical nurse and paramedic.
He served as a board member from Iraq in the past, communicating via conference calls during meetings, but he expressed his desire to vacate the position this time.
His term was set to go through 2012, but Board President Kirk Lee said Mullen’s decision was not surprising and at least the timing was good for all involved.
“To some degree this was a good time for this to happen because we’re posting it and we at least have four people right now interested in being on the school board, who have filled out their signatures and will be on the ballot,” he said.
One seat will be filled during the election, thus the board has decided to conduct interviews and vote on Mullen’s replacement sometime after May 4, Lee said.
Per the school board’s policies, they have 30 days to fill a vacancy.
