GLIAC basketball on the men's side with three weeks remaining in the regular season.
Hillsdale women: (19-2, 14-2)
The Charger women remain ranked in the top 10 nationally and if with a loss by Michigan Tech last week they have a great chance of being the No. 1 seed in the GLIAC tournament and they could possibly host a D-II regional. Hillsdale has won nine straight games, with Katie Cezat and strong guard play leading the way.
The rest of the GLIAC:
Ashland (13-8, 9-7)
• Beat Northern Michigan and No. 8 Michigan Tech last week
• Betsy Morrison tallied 33 points and 14 rebounds in the two contests
• Lindsey Gaut scored a career-high 22 points against the Huskies
Ferris State (7-13, 5-11)
• Lost to No. 7 Hillsdale and beat Findlay last week
• The Bulldogs are now within one game of Findlay for the final spot in the GLIAC Postseason Tournament with six games to play
• Senior forward/center Jenna Guay totaled 28 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and two steals in the two contests
Findlay (11-10, 6-10)
• Lost to Grand Valley State and Ferris State last week
• Junior guard Audra Mihalic averaged 19.0 points per game last week
• Junior forward Megan Sellers averaged 11.0 rebounds per game last week
Grand Valley State (16-5, 12-4)
• Beat Findlay and lost to No. 7 Hillsdale Last week
• Freshman guard Emma Veach paced GVSU with 17.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game last week
• The Lakers are 9-1 at home and 7-5 on the road this season
Lake Superior State (14-10, 7-9)
• Lost to Northwood and beat Wayne State last week
•Senior Jaclyn Armstrong made the game-winning basket with three seconds remaining in regulation against Wayne State
• Armstrong was named to the “ESPN The Magazine” Academic All-District First Team in District IV
Michigan Tech (18-3, 15-1)
• Beat Tiffin and lost to Ashland last week
• The 80-77 overtime loss to Ashland put an end to the Huskies quest for conference perfection, as they are now 15-1 in GLIAC play
• Junior Katie Wysocky pulled down 21 rebounds in two games last week to move within two of 700 for her career. The 6-0 forward's total of 698 is just two shy of third-most all-time at MTU
Northern Michigan (12-9, 7-9)
• Lost to Ashland and beat Tiffin last week
• The Wildcats came back from a 10-point second-half deficit to beat the Dragons
• Wildcat senior guard Kelsey Deacon scored 36 points combined in the two contests last week
Northwood (17-4, 12-4)
• Beat Lake Superior State and Saginaw Valley State last week
• Northwood’s current five-game winning streak is the program’s longest since 1991-92
• The Timberwolves are one win short of tying the school record of 18 victories as a Division II school
• Junior forward Jodi Ostergren had a career-high 31 points against SVSU
Saginaw Valley State (2-19, 1-15)
• Lost to Wayne State and Northwood last week
• Against Wayne State, freshman guard Marah Kyle scored 21 points including going 4-for-7 from behind the three-point arc.
Tiffin (5-16, 4-12)
• Lost to Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan last week
• Mandy Jaeb continued her strong freshman season, leading the team in scoring last week with 16 points and 4.5 rebounds per game
Wayne State (6-15, 4-12)
• Beat Saginaw Valley State and lost to Lake Superior State last week
• The Warriors snapped a five-game losing streak with their win over SVSU
• Senior Chastidy Miller, who ranks seventh in all-time scoring at WSU with 1,122 points, will play in her 100th collegiate game on Thursday
