Another page has turned in the nine-mile rivalry between Hudson and Addison.
The Tigers dominated possession and Drew Milligan scored three first-half touchdowns as Hudson rolled to a 40-0 win on Friday.
“We needed this game,” Hudson coach Chris Luma said. “Now we know we are going to be playing at home (in the playoffs) and that’s kind of a relief.
We have been playing well lately and hopefully we can continue that into the playoffs.”
With the victory Hudson improves to 9-0 and completed its first unbeaten regular season since 2004. For Addison, it likely marks the first time in 11 years the Panthers did not make the playoffs.
“We obviously didnt get the job done today,” Addison coach Mark Beougher said. “Hudson is a good strong team and they controlled the line of scrimmage. We are holding out slim hope for the playoffs but we didnt take care of business.”
After failed possessions by both teams to start the game, Hudson took over on the Addison 43-yard line and went the distance in six plays as Milligan capped the drive with a 14-yard touchdown run down the sideline.
Again Addison was forced into a three-and-out on its next drive and Hudson took over at the 50.
The Tigers took 14 plays to go 50 yards, and again Milligan capped the drive with a touchdown run from a yard out to give Hudson a 14-0 lead with 8:37 left in the opening half.
“Last time we played in the mud, Milligan was the only one on the field who could keep his footing,” Luma said. “We were hoping that would be the case today and it was. He did a great job for us and showed off his talent in these conditions.”
Milligan who finished with 13 carries for 85 yards, got his third touchdown with 4:12 left after John Nealy's 20-yard scamper set up the five-yard score for Milligan.
On the ensuing possession, Conner Butts coughed up the ball at the Panther 35-yard line and the Tigers took over.
After a 15-yard run by Milligan, quarterback Sandor Heistan connected with a wide open Matt Smith in the end zone for a 20-yard touchdown pass to give the Tigers a 26-0 halftime lead.
To start the second half, Butts fumbled giving Hudson the ball at the Addison 31.
“They (Addison) have some good running backs,” Luma said. “We talked about how to stop them and we did a nice job of bottling things up inside. Our defense was in the right place a lot of the time and made some big plays.”
It took the Tigers 11 plays and nearly seven minutes to go the 31 yards for the score. Grant Benschoter capped the drive with a one-yard touchdown run.
Zak Stoner fumbled the ensuing kickoff again giving Hudson great field position at the Panther 38.
John Nealy had a pair of carries for 32 yards on the drive, including a 25-yard touchdown run to give the game its final score of 40-0. Nealy finished with 14 carries for 104 yards.
Addison attempted to get into scoring range and managed to reach the red zone for the first time in the game with under two minutes left.
On itsfirst play in the red zone quarterback Skyler Reniger threw the ball intocoverage and the Tigers picked it off.
“We just made too many mistakes today,” Beougher said. “We could not move the ball and when we did, we turned it over. We have a little hope we can make the playoffs but it’s going to take a lot.”
Addison finished the game with just 63 yards of total offense.
